I don't really know how to answer this.
The definition of religion is "the belief and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods" or "a particular system of faith and worship"
I do belief in a higher power as some would say and I do have a particular system of faith and worship but I wouldn't consider myself to be a fanatic. I was definitely more passionate about my religion when I was younger and more willing to just blindly accept the rules I was governed by but now, I'm starting to question quite a few things.
There are some parts of my religion where it's really just one huge grey area. There are so many interpretations and I don't know which or what to follow. I mean sure I can pick the one that suits me best but is that the absolute truth? Are there any absolutes?
I'm in a weird period in my life where the media and society tells us that it's okay to do a lot of things that ten year old me would frown upon and wouldn't even consider.
There are a lot of people also giving a bad name not just to my religion but to religion in general. I'm pretty sure any religion does not tell you to breed hate, contempt and to go around killing in the name of your religion but so many people do and that's not what their religion teaches them. And listen to me when I say that I'm not just talking about the Muslims in light of the recent events. I'm also talking about the Bible bashing Christians that turn around and do things that make me ashamed for them. I'm talking about people of all religions that breed hate and contempt. I feel like this is an important thing to add here that terrorism has no religion. If you walk around the streets and think that religion must be bad because of what people are doing in the name of their religion then let me tell you this, that is not what religion is about.
I digress.
What I'll always stand by is that religion is important. It helps build your identity and what you stand for. It helps shape your values and what you deem as right and wrong and it's nice to know that there is a God looking out for you, you know?
It's like a security blanket that I know is there to catch me when I fall. It's the thing that I go to before making a decision and personally, it's helped get me through some really, really though times.
